TiTitanium

This area chart shows when elements were discovered, from ancient times through modern accelerator experiments. Major clustering occurs around the 18th-19th centuries and again in the nuclear age.

The pattern reflects technological capability. Ancient elements (gold, silver, copper, iron) were found as native metals or easily smelted ores. The 18th-19th century surge coincides with electrolysis and spectroscopy development. Superheavy elements appear from 1940s onward, with the most recent (113-118) confirmed only in the 2010s.
